Hello I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC - Those ads by Apple back in 2006 really hurt Microsofts image, and Microsoft is getting desparate in coming back with something creative. :(

Apple "Get a Mac" ads from 2006... The first punch

My take:

The ads are good because they focus on the advantages to using a Mac with OS X over a PC with Windows. They are obviously poking fun at PCs by portraying them as a boring person that is plagued with problems and stress.

Microsoft finally fights back in 2008... pathetic :(

Take retired Bill gates and add a washed up Jerry Seinfield and a bunch of rambling about nothing...

First ad: Shoe Circus - Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates

Second ad: New Family - Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates Ad (Long Version)

Microsoft's desparate "Laptop Hunters" campaign

Actors? or real people? You decide.

First ad: Laptop Hunters $1000 - Lauren Gets an HP Pavilion

Lauren knows nothing, a typical "idiot" user that doesnt really care about what she buys, ends up with a $700 notebook by HP.

Second ad: Laptop Hunters $1500 - Giampaolo gets an HP HDX

Giampaolo (aka G) is a "Geek" looking for a 17" notebook and is a bit picky, so he ends up with a 7lb monster from HP.

Third ad: Laptop Hunters $1500 – Lisa and Jackson get a Sony VAIO

A mother and her son go into Best Buy and check out the options. Did he buy a HP too? Nope, he buys a Sony VAIO which nomally arent cheap, but I guess he got a deal.

Forth ad: Laptop Hunters $2000 – Sheila (filmmaker) gets a Wide screen HP HDX 16t - The big brother to Giampaolos (Second ad) PC.

With just $2000 to spend, Sheila finds her perfect laptop a widescreen HP HDX 16t with enough power to handle moviemaking

Apple fights back with new ads against Microsoft for 2009...

Since December 2008, Apple has been laying low and watching Microsoft make a fool of themselves. So they dont really need to sling mud, or do they?

Biohazard Suit - PC wears a biohazzard suit to ward off all the latest virus threats (New for April 2009)

Legal Copy - PC says things, and the screen fills up with legal copy (New for April 2009)

Stacks - PC cant find a photo, Mac can organize your photos with faces, facial recognition technology (New for April 2009)

Time Traveler - PC heads into the future, year 2150, to find out if PCs stop crashing, freezing. When he gets there "future PC" freezes up. (New for April 2009)

Notice: The new Apple ads never mention Microsoft, and dont refer to the new microsoft ads? Smart. Dont give your competition free advertising, stick to what you know.

My take:

The iPhone Ads have dominated the scence lately, which is surely the point here to market the iPhone, hoping to gain PC people to take a look at their system. Since you need iTunes to use either an iPod or iPhone, the move is a good one for cross selling. Why not sling mud? They dont have to sell Macs when they are clearly making A TON of money on the iPhone.
