Since I use Skype and MSN for communicating on my computer, I thought about how I use these services. It made better sense to have Skype on my phone instead. I found out how using Nimbuzz.

I have been using Skype since 2006 on my computer with customers and friends and loving the free service. I also have used chat software like MSN messenger and AIM for years, but not the voice features due to bad performance.

When I bought my iPhone 3G in July 2008, I had already been thinking about how to get Skype to work. At the time there were no Skype apps in the App Store.

After a few months of waiting for something (this shouldnt take so long) an App called Fring came along. This offered Skype, MSN and a few others which were exactly what I was looking for.

I found that Fring worked great! I called my pal Geir on his new iPhone 3G and it worked awesome over the Wireless Network at home.

A few months ago I found a better App for Skype and the rest of my social services. Nimbuzz!

Nimbuzz vs. Fring

Nimbuzz shows each contact (online or not) with an icon for that service. Fring has only 1 icon for all networks/services.

Nimbuzz allows me to connect with these services over 3G, Edge, GPRS or Wifi:

  • AOL IM
  • Facebook
  • Yahoo! IM
  • Skype
  • MySpace
  • Google Talk
  • MSN
  • ICQ

Fring offers these services over 3G, Edge, GPRS or Wifi:

  • AOL IM
  • Yahoo! IM
  • Skype
  • Google Talk
  • MSN
  • ICQ
  • Twitter
  • SIP
